Dearest Friends,
When you purchase a board from us, you are not only supporting a small, women-owned business, but you are also helping us to more fully live out our American dream. We hope that Heritage Boards is a reminder to women all over the country that you can always start something new, at any age. My father, Janette’s Husband of over 30 years, passed away in 2022 at just 66 years old. In all his complexity, my father’s greatest consistency was his role as a provider. His professional life and career allowed my mom to be a stay-at-home mom, paid for my undergraduate college education, and provided a down payment for my first home. I was tremendously privileged and continue to be so grateful for the opportunity my family gave me. As the eldest daughter, I took on a large role for my family when my dad passed away. I wanted my mom to live her remaining days comfortably and to spend more time with her. Being almost entirely career-driven until my early 40s, I missed dedicated time with both my parents.Growing up, my dad always encouraged my mom to start a food business . She had an incredible talent for baking and cooking as well as an eye for food presentation and decorating. Folks in our neighborhood would buy her cheesecakes or put in requests for her to make their family member’s birthday cake. Now entering her 70th year, my mom was finally ready to take a leap and start! Starting a food-based business with my mom seemed like a perfect opportunity to spend more time together doing something we both enjoyed.Heritage Boards is more than a charcuterie company. It is the story of unconditional love between a mother and a daughter. It is the story of legacy and honoring the family that brought us here today. It is a story of two women who know that starting a business, without a father or a husband, is something that wasn’t afforded to those who came before us. We understand that a more perfect union must include women as business owners, not just workers.
